Frankfurt (d.de) – At the Water Conference hosted by the United Nations (UN) in New York from 22 to 24 March, the German government is campaigning for decisive action to address the water crisis. The conference is being kicked off by World Water Day under the banner “Accelerating Change”. Germany is being represented by Environment Minister Steffi Lemke. She says: “The climate crisis, species extinction and the pollution crisis are the three ecological crises of our time. At the same time, sustainable water management is a central key to resolving these global crises by better protecting and restoring ecosystems.” She went on to say that Germany was therefore committed to rapid action and a “Water Action Agenda”. The German delegation also includes high-ranking representatives of the foreign ministry, the ministry of agriculture and the development ministry.
