CHICAGO — A 41-year-old woman was hospitalized after being shot in the head while she was in a West Side residence Monday night, according to Chicago police.
Police say the woman was inside a residence in the 300 block of South Christiana Avenue, in the Garfield Park neighborhood, just before 8:30 p.m. Monday when a bullet came through the side of the building and struck her in the head.
The victim was taken to an area hospital, where she was listed in serious condition, police say.
Damage from the gunfire was visible from outside the building, and at least one bullet appeared to have also struck the trunk of a car parked on the street. Investigators on scene documented several shell casings and could be seen placing close to a dozen evidence markers on the ground.
Police have not said whether they believe this was a targeted shooting or the victim was hit by a stray bullet.
Nobody is in custody as of early Tuesday morning, and Area Four detectives are investigating.
