BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – During his Team Kentucky update, Governor Andy Beshear announced some funding heading to the City of Bowling Green for repairs to a stormwater line.
The line, located on Chestnut Street between 2nd & 5th Avenues, was built back in the 1970’s, and is in dire need of repairs, according to Environmental Manager Matt Powell.
Powell also discussed how this funding will help the project keep citizens safer.
“Constructed in the 1970s, a 900 foot section of the Chestnut Street storm sewer system between Fifth Street and Second Street has a structural deficiency that resulted in the system only being allowed to carry around 33% of its original design capacity. This funding will allow for a full reconstruction of the system that will eliminate a faulty pump station, improve the system’s capacity, and reduce the potential for flooding in the neighborhood,” he says.
There is no timetable on when construction is planned to start, but News 40 will keep you updated on this project.
