LA MESA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A recent stop at a grocery store in East County led one local man to millionaire status.
According to officials with the California Lottery, a man named Nicholas Amour Leon stopped in at the grocery store, located on Lake Murray Boulevard in La Mesa, and purchased a Triple Red 777 Scratchers ticket. These tickets cost $10 each, with one in 2.92 overall odds and one in 4.13 cash odds.
To win, players need to match their given numbers to any of the six winning numbers to win that prize. If a player uncovers a red “7,” they’ll automatically win that corresponding prize. For those who uncover a red “77,” they’ll automatically win double that prize, while scratching to find a red “777” means triple that prize.
As for Leon, he scratched his way to $1 million winnings. The odds of winning this amount on Triple Red 777 Scratchers is one in 2,047,423, according to the California Lottery.
It’s safe to say that Vons trip will always be remembered by Leon, as it’s left his wallet much heavier.
