HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A large portion of the I-69 Southwest Freeway, a major thoroughfare in the city of Houston, is shutdown due to a jackknifed 18-wheeler northbound at Gessner.
For now, one righthand lane of traffic is getting by.
Transtar cameras show the backup building as of 6:30 a.m., which means if you take this route heading into downtown Houston, you may want to check for an alternate.
Several mainlanes of the freeway are closed as crews wait for a heavy duty wrecker to upright the 18-wheeler and remove it.
Once that wrecker arrives, drivers should expect the whole freeway to close so the vehicle can get in place.
In the meantime, if you’re coming up the Southwest Freeway and haven’t hit the Beltway yet, you can take the Beltway or even try the HOV.
Other alternates are Highway 90, the Westpark Tollway or Bissonnet.
As of 7:30 a.m., backups are over an hour long.
ABC13 is sending a crew to the scene to gather more information.
