No one is a bigger critic of a wrestling match than the wrestlers in the match itself. Professional wrestlers will typically look back and nitpick any tiny thing about their own match, so it could be hard for a wrestler to find their favorite match they’ve performed. Multiple wrestlers on the other hand have been able to look back on their matches and find one that sticks out either for being a great match itself or just a match they loved performing in despite the quality.
A handful of AEW superstars have talked about their favorite matches they’ve been a part of, whether they have been in All Elite Wrestling or outside in another promotion. Let’s take a look back at a few AEW wrestlers and their favorite matches of all time.
10 Samoa Joe – Vs. Brock Lesnar, Great Balls Of Fire
Ring of Honor Television and TNT Champion, Samoa Joe, has called his match with Brock Lesnar at the 2017 Great Balls of Fire PPV his favorite match during his time in WWE. He spoke with Ryan Satin on his Out Of Character podcast, admitting that it was his best WWE memory.
He talked about his love for the build of the match and opened up about how he wanted to go back and forth with Paul Heyman on the mic for years at that point. Many fans were upset that the match was quite short and Joe never got a one-on-one rematch, but Joe remembers the match fondly.
9 Adam Cole – Vs. Pete Dunne, Survivor Series
In 2020, Adam Cole would rank his favorite matches with Bleacher Report. Cole said his top match during his WWE career was the 2019 Survivor Series match against Pete Dunne. Adam Cole said this NXT Championship defense and the night he won the title both rank quite high for him.
He said his favorite parts were the fact it was the first time the NXT Championship was defended at Survivor Series, plus the insane 24 hours he had beforehand taking part in a WarGames match and being thrown off the cage.
8 Darby Allin – Vs. MJF, Full Gear
Darby Allin spoke with Robbie Fox on My Mom’s Basement and said his favorite match since working with AEW was his Full Gear matchup against MJF. He said he doesn’t like to give Max that credit, but they proved the pillars could steal the show.

7 Jungle Boy – Jurassic Express Vs. The Young Bucks, Road Rager 2022
From two pillars of AEW to another, Jungle Boy would do an interview on Stevens Wrestling Journey and talk about his favorite memories while teaming with his partner Luchasaurus. Jungle Boy said his two best memories were winning the titles from the Lucha Bros, it was amazing other than Fenix’s injury hampering the ending a little bit.
His favorite though would be the ladder match between his team and the Young Bucks at Road Rager when they lost the championships. While the match was originally meant to include Matt and Jeff Hardy, the two teams wouldn’t let that hold them back and instead put on an amazing tag match.
6 Athena – Vs. Asuka, TakeOver Brooklyn 3
Athena would answer fan questions during an online signing with Highspots Superstore. During these questions, she spoke about her favorite opponents quickly naming either Asuka or Dakota Kai as her top wrestlers to face.

4 Chris Jericho – Vs. Shawn Michaels, No Mercy
Chris Jericho would post on Facebook in 2017 answering multiple fans’ questions about his favorite match ever. He claims it is always his ladder match against Shawn Michaels at 2008 No Mercy, saying the story, build-up, and finish were one of the best stories and angles in WWE history.
Similarly, Jericho would also talk about his favorite match at WrestleMania giving the accolade to Shawn Michaels again at WrestleMania 19.
3 Tay Melo – Vs. Britt Baker, Full Gear

Jon Moxley appeared on My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox and talked about his match against Triple H at Roadblock 2016 being the favorite of his WWE career. Moxley would say the match was “one of the last really old-school matches you’ll see in WWE probably.”
