A 12-year-old boy was killed and four other people were wounded late Friday when gunfire broke out during a party at an abandoned house in National City.
National City Police responded just before midnight to 945 N Avenue, where they found a crowd of over 100 teens and young adults in the home.
Capt. Derek Aydelotte told OnScene.TV that four gunshot victims were transported to local hospitals but a fifth was pronounced dead after lifesaving measures at the scene.
The deceased victim was later identified as a 12-year-old boy.
“It’s horrific. I am a father, as our most of our officers,” Aydelotte said. “When you see something like this, it’s difficult.”
He said the identify of the shooter and motive are currently unknown, and asked for witnesses to come forward with any information.
Aydelotte said that because of the number of victims, his department called for backup assistance from the San Diego Police, San Diego Sheriff, Chula Vista Police and Harbor Police.
