The Daffodil Project marks one million plantings in Downtown Atlanta
🌼 Downtown Atlanta, in partnership with The Daffodil Project, an international organization dedicated to building a living Holocaust memorial worldwide, announces planting the one-millionth daffodil bulb.
This global milestone honors the memory of 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust while supporting children facing humanitarian crises today. Since 2010, The Daffodil Project has worked to create a living Holocaust memorial through daffodil plantings in partnership with more than 650 sites around the world.
In Atlanta, the initiative forms a “ribbon of consciousness” that begins at the Center for Civil and Human Rights, weaves through Downtown, and connects to the King Center. This ribbon symbolizes unity, resilience, and shared humanity, linking the city’s historic landmarks, educational institutions, and public spaces. Visitors and residents can also enjoy daffodil plantings at locations like Woodruff Park.

Singer/songwriter Janis Ian discusses new documentary ‘Breaking Silence’
🎸 Georgia Voice reporter Gregg Shapiro sat down with singer/songwriter Janis Ian to discuss Varda Bar-Kar’s informative documentary “Janis Ian: Breaking Silence,” which will debut in theaters March 28.
Shapiro has interviewed Ian four times throughout his career and has also been a frequent concertgoer during Ian’s tours. Now retired from touring and recording, Ian is the subject of the documentary, which also features interviews with Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Laurie Metcalf, and Jean Smart.
Ian also discusses her 1967 appearance in the TV documentary “Inside Pop: The Rock Revolution,” her connection to Leonard Bernstein, her appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” and her archives at Berea College in Kentucky.

Wayfair to open retail store in former Walmart on Howell Mill Road
🛋️ Online furniture retailer Wayfair will open its second brick-and-mortar location in 2026 at the former Walmart space in The District at Howell Mill shopping center.
The Boston-based retailer has leased the 150,000-square-foot space at 1801 Howell Mill Rd. and will convert the former Walmart store left vacant after a fire in 2023.
The new location is strategically positioned near Wayfair’s McDonough distribution center, which the company says will enable faster delivery of large items, such as sofas, to customers in the area.
‘The Nickname’: Stories of Atlanta by Lance Russell
VIA SAPORTAREPORT
🗝️ You might be familiar with the term “Y’allywood.” It is a nickname that many have recently applied to Atlanta. For those not into, as ‘The Dude’ would say, “the whole brevity thing,” perhaps you’re familiar with “Hollywood of the South.”
Either way, both of those names will just have to be added to the lengthy list of nicknames that Atlanta has garnered since the Terminus stake was driven into the ground, which, as you would expect, gave rise to the nickname Terminus. It doesn’t take much to spawn a new moniker in this community and it never has.
➼ Take the case of Jonathan Norcross in the 1840s, who was just trying to be a nice guy, as you will see in this week’s Stories of Atlanta.
